Meet The Team: Humeyra

Hi, my name is Humeyra,

Here is a little story of how my path aligned with UDI:

One night during Ramadan 2019, my brother Muhammed and I sat down for some tea. He had just met brother Uthman Sudais and had shared his awe of Uthman’s patience and positive mindset given all the struggles and adversity that he has faced since childhood. Uthman epitomised hope and inspired us with his gratitude for what he had and what he could give. The image of my brother saying “Humeyra, he said his dream is to build an orphanage before he dies” with his eyes full of tears will never leave me. As we continued to discuss his ideas, I followed every word, and could not help reciprocating his excitement; his passion had me engaged and we could not let go of this momentum. My brother and his group of friends immediately started his research, looking for lands, organising the planning and permits, learning and adapting as he worked tirelessly to bring fruition to this idea…. Uthman’s dream. There was only one thing left to do, to spread the word!

This is where I stepped in to offer what I could, creating the social’s platform. This was our way of engaging with everyone who wanted to join us in this journey.

Looking at where this began, with us talking of a dream as we sipped tea in our living room and what we have already achieved, draws back to the first lessons I learnt from brother Uthman; gratitude. Alhamdullilah for all that we have accomplished through many successful campaigns, helping families with food supplies, beds, clothing, money, books for kids, Starting Kitgum project 1 and becoming a registered organisation.

SubhanAllah being the UDI social’s manager, I am proud to say that I am a part of a team of 13 volunteers. Simply working with such a hardworking team has allowed me to grow in the pursuit of this dream.

We cannot do this alone, we believe it,
“Together we can”. 🤍
